In the 'say it isn't so' news category comes word that Jennifer Lopez is in talks to star in the big screen version of the 80s series, Dallas. J-Lo as Sue Ellen Ewing? The only good thing about this bit of casting news is that there's now one less movie I'll be checking out when it screens for free in my city.If all goes as director Robert Luketic plans, Lopez would take on the role created by Linda Gray in the long-running series. Also in talks to star in the Dallas movie are Luke Wilson as Bobby Ewing, and John Travolta as JR. Apparently Luketic has already convinced Shirley MacLaine to take on the role of Miss Ellie.
The Regency Enterprises/20th Century Fox movie is expected to start filming in late 2006.
Why do we need another movie based on a classic TV series? We don't but studios do. It all boils down to cold hard cash. If moviegoers continue to buy tickets to films like The Dukes of Hazzard, then studios will continue to harvest old TV Guide's for the next big moneymaker.
