June 26, 2006 - Actor/writer/director Emilio Estevez steps behind the camera again for Bobby, a movie often referred to as Estevezs passion project. Bobby follows the last few hours leading up to the assassination of United States Senator Robert F Kennedy Jr as seen through the eyes of random people at the Ambassador Hotel. The cast includes such big name stars as Sir Anthony Hopkins, Elijah Wood, Demi Moore, Laurence Fishburne, and Ashton Kutcher, as well as teen pop queen Lindsay Lohan, whos transitioning to more adult roles with this film and A Prairie Home Companion.
While talking about what could be her last teen film, Just My Luck, Lohan provided a little insight into Estevezs Bobby and her upcoming film, Chapter 27, with Jared Leto.
Lindsay Lohan on Her Character in Bobby: I play [a character] based on a woman that inspired Emilio to write her into the movie. He went to write the script and went into this hotel. He walked in to go to check in and the woman noticed him and she said - her names not Diane but Im Diane in it She said, Can I ask what youre doing here? This is the most random place for you to come. And he said, Well, Im writing a movie. She goes, Well, can I ask what its about or is this some big Hollywood secret? He said, No, its about the assassination of Bobby Kennedy.
The way he described it, she grabbed the desk and put her head down. She looked up and tears were welling in her eyes. She was like, I was there. And it sounds crazy that she actually did this. She married, I think, it was probably three or four men that shed known in her life so they didnt have to go to Vietnam which was completely inappropriate, God forbid. Women didnt have the rights to [protest]. They werent allowed to say what they felt as much. Its not like it is now. And its a nice character and I have some great scenes in it. The movies beautiful.
On Reenacting History: I think its actually a great thing for me. My sister was on the set a few times and she learned so much and she was actually learning about the assassination in school at the time. So I brought her, she came to visit me in L.A. and stayed with me for a few weeks. She learned so much just being there. And for me, for my younger fan base, I think its kind of nice that I can try and draw my audience in so they can learn from that.
Lohan says most of her scenes are with Sharon Stone, William H. Macy, and Elijah Wood. I know that Demi Moore, Anthony Hopkins and I are going to go and promote it so thats an honor, said Lohan.
Researching Her Role in Chapter 27: Chapter 27 follows the last few days in the life of Mark David Chapman, the man who murdered music legend John Lennon. Lohan says to prepare for the role she spoke to Lennons widow, Yoko Ono. I actually sat down with Yoko Ono a few times to talk to her about it. Its a very touchy subject, and no one wanted me to do the movie that works with me just because John Lennon is a legend was - God rest his soul. I was actually really nervous going into it because I did get death threats and everything. But the director I believe in, and hes a good friend of mine.
I saw half of the movie, no music or anything. Ive never seen a movie like that, while he was editing it, and it really made me nervous. But I love my character in the movie. Shes just such a genuine fan of John Lennon and Yoko Ono in the film, and shes the light in the movie. She is like the Hitchcock blonde, but Im not blonde in it. She reminds me of that."
Lohan added, "Jarrett Schaeffer is a great director and hes doing a great job with it. Jared Leto did a great job. It was interesting to me and I wanted to get the okay from Yoko and Sean.
Lindsay Lohan Shares Her Impression of Yoko Ono: I nearly died. I walked in; we were wearing almost the same thing. I swear to God. Were both wearing all black because I was like I need to wear something that Yoko would [sanction]. We went and had sushi and she was so sweet and just amazing in the things that she had to say. I just think the things that shes done are wonderful and John Lennons music is very inspirational, as was hers. The Ballad of John and Yoko is like my favorite song.
