March 9, 2007 - Jason Lee, My Name is Earl star and buddy of filmmaker Kevin Smith, has signed on to the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie for Fox Animation. Lee will play David Seville, the man who looks after the mischievous chipmunks.
Fox has hired Tim Hill (Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties) to direct Alvin and the Chipmunks which will be a mix of live-action and CGI work. Filming is expected to begin later this month with the studio aiming for a December release date.
In addition to starring in My Name is Earl, Lee has been keeping busy with Disney's Underdog movie. Lee provides the voice of the caped canine in the family-friendly film which will hit theaters in August.
