The Hollywood Reporter says the cast for the late Anthony Minghella's portion of the anthology New York, I Love You is coming together. Minghella's portion of the movie will star Shia LaBeouf, Julie Christie and John Hurt. Minghella wrote the screenplay and was supposed to have directed the segment. Following Minghella's death on March 18, 2008, director Shekhar Kapur (Elizabeth: The Golden Age) stepped in to helm the segment. Minghella's son Max was originally set to star in his father's segment, however Max withdrew from the project just before his father's death.
New York, I Love You is a collection of 12 short films featuring the five New York City boroughs. The theme of finding love is common to each of the segments. Brett Ratner, Scarlett Johansson, Mira Nair and Natalie Portman will be directing segments. The overall budget for the film is around $13 million.
Shia LaBeouf will next be seen in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. New York, I Love You is the first movie Julie Christie's been attached to following her Oscar nominated performance in Sarah Polley's Away From Her. John Hurt recently completed work on Indiana Jones and Hellboy II: The Golden Army.
