Guide Review - The Last King of Scotland DVD Review
Based on the novel by Giles Foden, The Last King of Scotland follows a fictional young Scottish doctor, Nicholas Garrigan (played by James McAvoy), who becomes one of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin's most trusted advisors. Told through the eyes of Dr Garrigan, the film follows Garrigan from his initial meeting with the volatile leader through to his incredibly close friendship with Amin, and ultimately to his disillusionment with the dictator. The Bonus Features
The Last King of Scotland DVD includes a feature I believe is one of the best things a director can include as part of the bonus material. The deleted and alternate scenes have optional commentary by director Kevin Macdonald, and I love being able to hear the filmmaker explain why specific scenes didn't make the final cut. To me that feature is as important as any full-length feature commentary track. In addition, The Last King of Scotland includes a batch of behind the scenes featurettes with information on the real Idi Amin as well as the film's cast.
