Guide Review - Knocked Up Extended & Unrated DVD Review
Ben Stone (Seth Rogen) is a slacker who lives with his buddies, a batch of stoners working on a celebrity nude website. Katherine Heigl plays 'E' entertainment journalist Allison Scott, an ambitious young woman who meets Ben on a wild night of drinking and winds up pregnant. Other than the fact they're going to have a baby, Ben and Allison have zero in common and have only nine months to figure out how to work together as a couple.
The Bonus Features
I think we're pretty safe in assuming the 2-disc Collector's Edition is the be-all, end-all of Knocked Up. There's three hours of bonus material and 99% of it is worth checking out.
Disc #1 has the extended feature as well as a batch of bonus material including over a dozen deleted scenes, four extended/alternate scenes, an alternate ending, and a commentary track. Apatow allows his cast a lot of freedom to play with lines, and the results show up in Line-O-Rama as well as the gag reel. There's even a short documentary with the guys on a roller coaster. But the highlight of disc #1 has to be the 'Directing the Director' segment. Capote director Bennett Miller oversees Apatow's work on the set, and it's hilarious.
Disc #2 has another batch of deleted/alternate scenes, plus tons of behind the scenes videos on the ever-growing beard, the kids, Dr Kuni, David Krumholtz as the 6th roommate Gummy, shooting strippers, and the best of the lot - 'Finding Ben Stone'. Michael Cera, Orlando Bloom, James Franco, David Krumholtz, Justin Long, Allen Covert, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, Gerry Bednob, and even Apatow himself are temporarily hired to play Seth Rogen's part.
