Interview with Michelle Monaghan at the Premiere of "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang"

Michelle Monaghan Heats Up the Screen in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang:" Even though she's only been on the scene for a short while, Monaghan's already compiling a pretty impressive resume. After making her film debut in "Perfume," Monaghan went on to roles in "Unfaithful," "It Runs in the Family," and "Winter Solstice." She was recently seen in the Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie film "Mr and Mrs Smith," and also has a supporting role in director Niki Caro's "North Country" starring Charlize Theron and Frances McDormand.

Monaghan's currently at work on "Mission Impossible 3" with Tom Cruise, playing a role that was sought after by a lot of big name young actresses (including, it was rumored, Katie Holmes).

According to Ali Hillis who plays Monaghan's best friend in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," it all couldn't be happening to a nicer person. And after interviewing Monaghan at the Hollywood Premiere of "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," I see absolutely no reason to doubt Hillis' honesty.

Asked if getting the chance to play someone so sexy was part of the appeal of this project, Monaghan said, "You know what? I saw that but certainly I think hair and wardrobe had a lot to do with that, to be honest (laughing). When I saw the script, here I saw a woman who is incredibly strong, smart, sad, vulnerable... She did a lot of action. So what I saw was kind of a lot of things that I see in my own girlfriends, you know? It’s not so much so sexy, but just kind of had all these qualities that you normally don’t get to see in Hollywood all that much. Normally it’s a romantic comedy or a thriller or something. So here was something different."

Michelle Monaghan on Her Character's Role in the Action: "I shake it all up. [It's] really, really a lot of fun. She has a little romance with Robert Downey Jr’s character. She previously had done some work with Gay Perry who’s played by Val Kilmer. So it’s basically the three of them unraveling this murder mystery."

Michelle Monaghan on Working with Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr: "I think we all kind of had a lot of fun with it. When you’re dealing with words like this, you don’t have to play with them. You don’t have to veer off too much. It’s just amazing material already."

Michelle Monaghan Raves About Writer/Director Shane Black: "He’s amazing. He’s absolutely amazing. So confident and competent. He’s just so smart. I mean, these are words that actors dream of."
