Kellita Smith describes her character as a woman a lot of ex-wives – or soon-to-be-exs - will be able to relate to. “My character represents those women who always wanted to [get back] at their ex-husband who’s helped them get to certain place in a financial world, and then he decides to get a [new woman]. So a woman scorned…You never know. I’m going to get my money. I’m not going to be like Ivana. I don’t want a dollar a year and several dresses.”
Smith didn’t base her character on anyone in particular, however there is one movie she found very inspirational and similar in tone. “As I read it, it reminded me of ‘The Ref.’ That’s what it reminded me of as soon as I read it and I went and watched it again.”
Though Smith’s making a name for herself in comedies, she admits she’s really aching to do a good action flick. A fan of “La Femme Nikita,” Smith said she wouldn’t mind doing a film like that in the future. But a move into action films will have to wait. Next up for the hard-working actress is a part in “Roll Bounce,” the comedy starring Bow Wow and Nick Cannon set for release on September 30, 2005.
