Guide Review - "King Kong - Peter Jackson's Production Diaries"
Peter Jackson allows fans an unprecedented behind the scenes look at the making of his passion project, "King Kong," with the release of the "King Kong - Peter Jackson's Production Diaries" collector's set. This impressive package of material is as close to being on the set of "King Kong" as possible without having actually made the trip to New Zealand. With Jackson at the helm, the set of "King Kong" is pretty much an open book. Most of the cast (including Naomi Watts, Adrien Brody, and Jack Black) add their insight into working on the big-budget action film. Because Jackson's personally involved in the production diaries, the star are able to openly discuss what's going on in specific scenes without fear of upsetting their director by revealing too much. Speaking of giving too much away, though the backstage access is incredible, rest assured these production diaries absolutely do not ruin the movie.
Production on the film is chronicled in 54 separate 'diary' entries, highlighted by the film's most amazing fight sequence - the Kong/T-Rex battle. The two disc DVD set contains over 3 1/2 hours of footage and is perhaps the most comprehensive insider's look at the making of a major studio film to be put together specifically for fans. Everything about the process of creating "King Kong" is included on the two discs, with candid interviews from the special effects people and other members of the crew (from lighting techs to animal trainers) included in the diaries.
