Jaime King and Frank Grillo Mother's Day Interview
How does this film reflect where family values have come to today? Frank Grillo: "I think what it does do is it puts a mirror up to people in terms of how you conduct yourselves in relationships and with your family. In a time of crisis, what really matters."And the idea that even good intentions can lead to evil?
Jaime King: "Oh, absolutely. I think that’s exactly what happens here. I think it’s an unintentional home invasion movie is really what it is. These people come into this house to find their famil,y but they didn’t intend on meeting us. All these things happen and it’s a domino effect. One thing happens to another after another, and it’s all because of those good intentions."
What are your characters’ relationship with Mother [played by Rebecca De Mornay]?
Jaime King: "Well, we’re married in the film."
Frank Grillo: "We’re married, but we don’t have a relationship with Mother except the fact that she owned the house before we did."
What’s the mood on set when you’re trying to create this atmosphere?
Jaime King: "It’s hardcore, dude. It was brutal. It’s tense and it’s brutal and very dark. It’s hard."
Frank Grillo: "Macabre. It’s not easy every day to come in on the set and get up for being so dark. It wears on you. We fought, all of us fought. We hated each other."
Jaime King: "I was fighting within myself."
Frank Grillo: "She got hurt."
Jaime King: "I broke my tailbone on the third day of filming so it was rough. Rough, rough, rough, rough, but I think in hindsight it all really worked for what it is that I was doing."
Are you okay now?
Jaime King: "Kind of."
Frank Grillo: "It still bothers you?"
Jaime King: "Oh my God, yeah. Wearing heels right now is rough. I haven’t been able to exercise in like a year. It really sucks."
Does that mean you need to sit down, or it hurts to sit?
Jaime King: "Well, it hurts to exercise. I ran for the first time a little bit ago and then re-injured it. Tailbones, I guess, are very fickle so now if I walk, I’m happy. That’s a good day for me. It’s bizarre but it is what it is. It could be worse."
What is the best thing your mothers taught you?
Jaime King: "That you can achieve anything. My mother was so supportive of my dreams. She really made me feel like if there was something I wanted to do, if I worked hard, then I can achieve it."
Frank Grillo: "My mom always told me to be kind to people, which has come in handy in my life."
