The cutting-edge soundtrack to Tarantino's latest cult classic was released April 13th on Maverick Records and features tracks from Johnny Cash, Malcolm McLaren, The RZA and others. Music from the films first installment, "KILL BILL VOL. 1," was released September 23, 2003, and contains contributions from artists including Nancy Sinatra's "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)," RZA's "Ode to Oren Ishii," "Run Fay Run" by Isaac Hayes and "The Flower of Carnage" by Meiko Kaji.
Both soundtracks became instant hits with both fans and critics alike. Surpassing expectations, "Vol. 1" debuted at #20 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and hit #1 on the Soundtrack chart, staying in the top spot for three straight weeks. To date, it has sold more than 1.4 million copies worldwide. "Vol. 2" debuted at #58 and also hit #1 on the Soundtrack chart. To date, it has sold more than 500,000 copies worldwide.
With a stellar track record for helming innovative and exciting soundtracks, Tarantino is arguably the most music-savvy of today's filmmakers and has once again put together the perfect combination of tracks from the past and present. Today's nomination is the second for Tarantino, whose previous nod was garnered for "KILL BILL VOL. 1" last year.
