Kidman will star as a Washington DC psychiatrist who investigates the cause of a mysterious epidemic. The new virus is changing the way humans behave. Kidman discovers the source is extraterrestrial and that her son may hold the key to stopping an invasion.
David Kajganich wrote the screenplay. The Warner Bros Pictures film will be produced by Joel Silver with Susan Levin, Doug Davison, Roy Lee and Don Zepfel executive producing.
Filming is expected to get underway later this year. "Invasion" will be shot in Baltimore, Washington DC and New York.
In a statement issued by Warner Bros, producer Joel Silver said, "It's incredibly exciting to have Nicole Kidman, one of the most gifted, versatile actresses in the world, starring in 'Invasion' with Oliver Hirschbiegel directing. 'Invasion' gives Nicole an opportunity to bring her depth and range to the kind of gritty action role that we haven't see her play before, as Oliver infuses the film with the brand of provocative, character-driven storytelling he's known for."
