Could Angelina Jolie Be Maleficent?

Mar 28, 2010 - Disney's gearing up to make a movie all about Maleficent, the wicked fairy godmother from the classic Sleeping Beauty tale, and the LA Times says the Disney project's caught the interest of Angelina Jolie who's considering starring in the film. The Hollywood Reporter broke the news on March 23rd that Disney had tapped Alice in Wonderland screenwriter Linda Woolverton to write a screenplay centered around one of Disney's most wicked villains. According to THR, Maleficent would be told from the evil fairy godmother's point of view, just as Wicked is told from the Wizard of Oz's Wicked Witch of the West's point of view rather than Dorothy's.

In Disney's 1959 Sleeping Beauty, Maleficent was a creepy looking woman with devil horns, green skin, and yellow eyes. She cursed the baby Princess Aurora, causing her to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and fall into a deep sleep on her 16th birthday.

Maleficent will be a live-action film, and the LA Times says Jolie's seriously interested in playing the title character. Director rumors have also been flying around fast and furiously, with Tim Burton and Pixar's Brad Bird both said to be interested. No one's commenting on the rumors officially, but if Jolie's truly taken with the material, that could be enough to get Disney to move quickly on getting a director locked in.

Jolie's currently filming The Tourist with Johnny Depp. Once she finishes up that project, her schedule's fairly open.

And with all this Maleficent talk, what I really want to know is when will there be a Wicked film?
