Aug 12, 2008 - Tom Cruise was attached to star in the dramatic thriller Edwin A Salt but it appears there's been a bit of a sex change to the Edwin script. Cruise is out and Angelina Jolie - definitely not a male - will take over in the lead role.

The Edwin A Salt script is being rewritten by Kurt Wimmer to work in a female lead, with Phillip Noyce still attached to direct the project. Noyce is no stranger to thrillers, and he and Jolie have previously worked together. Noyce directed Jolie in the 1999 crime drama The Bone Collector which starred Denzel Washington as a paralyzed homicide detective who takes Jolie's character under his wing during the search for a serial killer.

The title will undoubtedly change (maybe Edwina A Salt?) prior to the start of production. The story follows a CIA officer who is thought to be a Russian spy. She must prove her innocence as the agency attempts to capture her, believing she's out to assassinate the president.

Jolie will next be seen in Clint Eastwood's Changeling which premiered at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.
