"Beowulf" follows the story of a Scandinavian hero who must save his fellow countrymen from the horrible monster, Grendel.
Angelina Jolie will play Grendel's mother, Ray Winstone will star as Beowulf, and Crispin Glover will take on the role of Grendel. Also cast in the production are Anthony Hopkins, Robin Wright Penn, Brendan Gleeson, John Malkovich and Alison Lohman.
Zemeckis told The Hollywood Reporter, "'Beowulf' is a timeless, epic tale of heroism and triumph. Digital rendering will allow us to depict this incredible story in ways we would never have dared imagine, and it's a privilege to work with Shangri-La, Paramount and Warner Bros. on this extraordinary project."
This "Beowulf" isn't the only adaptation to be readied for the big screen. Gerard Butler ("The Phantom of the Opera") recently completed work on "Beowulf and Grendel," a live action adaptation of the poem, directed by Sturla Gunnarsson. That version of "Beowulf" will premiere at the 2005 Toronto Film Festival.
