Nov 5, 2004 - Lions Gate Films acquired North American rights from Beyond Films to the movie "A Good Woman," which is an adaptation of Oscar Wilde's play, "Lady Windermere's Fan."

"A Good Woman" was directed by Mike Barker ("To Kill a King") from a screenplay by Howard Himelstein. Oscar winner Helen Hunt ("As Good as it Gets"), Scarlett Johansson, Tom Wilkinson, Mark Umbers, Stephen Campbell Moore, and Diana Hardcastle star in the scandalous comedy.

Set in New York and the Italian Riviera during the 1930s, Mrs. Erlynne (Hunt) is well-known woman with a rep for entertaining wealthy, married men. Mrs Erlynne leaves NY for Italy, set on meeting up with one of the most high profile society couples of the day, Meg (Johansson) and Robert Windermere (Umbers). When she arrives, she becomes caught up in a scandal involving seduction, betrayal and loyality.

In a statement issued by Lions Gate Films, studio president Tom Ortenberg said, "Mike Barker and this cast deliver one of the best Wilde adaptations in years. The audience reaction at the Toronto premiere made me confident that this film has a winning combination of humor and drama played out on screen by some of the best actors working today."
