Adam Brody Interview
What prep did you do? Did you study bands or rock stars?Adam Brody: "We tried for a little Brandon Flowers, maybe a little Morrissey for a second. Then there’s Maroon 5 and other good stuff."
Was it the fact it was a darker film that appealed to you?
Adam Brody: "It wasn’t, actually. I mean, it’s nice that it was sort of a departure, but that’s kind of a happy accident. Really, I’m just looking for, I want to work with intelligent people and look for scripts that I think are intelligent and surprising."
What was your favorite part of working on this?
Adam Brody: "Even though it’s not in the scene, dancing and singing was pretty fun. I could do High School Musical 4. I’d be the principal."
Are you a fan of horror films? Do you have a favorite?
Adam Brody: "Well, I can never answer these 'my favorite all-time' questions. What I will do is say what I like at the moment because that’s so much easier and I don’t feel as tied to it for the rest of my life. I’ll look back and be like, 'You’re such an idiot.' Anyway, I’m really into John Carpenter’s The Thing right now. It’s from '81, '80. It’s awesome. I hadn’t even seen it at all until recently. It’s great."
What’s your favorite thing about the character you play in Jennifer's Body?
Adam Brody: "Just an absence of any morals, therefore [it] was super freeing. It was super freeing to be able to play a guy who can be as unlikeable as he wants."
Do you think most men, given full disclosure that she’s going to kill them, would still opt for a night with Megan Fox?
Adam Brody: "Full disclosure...so you get a whole night? Let’s be particular."
You know you get killed.
Adam Brody: "You get a whole night though, then you get killed in the morning. Sure. Sure, especially if you’ve got an illness or something already."
I didn’t even think of that. Thank you for taking it to the next level.
Adam Brody: "I’ll do this all night."
What was different about this than other film or TV project you’ve done?
Adam Brody: "Well, it was nice. The character was nice to do a character, normally you’re playing someone you should feel empathy for and this, you shouldn’t. Or if you do, I think you took it the wrong way which maybe is flattering. So that was different and I hadn’t gotten to work - I’ve worked with the producers before but I haven’t gotten to work with Karyn [Kusama] or Diablo [Cody] or Megan [Fox] and Amanda [Seyfried]. I think that’s like four phenomenally talented females."
Is Diablo’s language easy?
Adam Brody: "It is to me because I think it’s good writing, and I always think good writing is easier to say. It’s bad writing, however naturalistic it’s written, that’s where you have to do your best acting."
Do you play a victim of Jennifer?
Adam Brody: "No, fortunately not. I remain unscathed." [spoiler deleted]
Are you disappointed not to be a victim of Megan's?
Adam Brody: "No. I think it’s true, everyone who was the victim got to make out with her first. That part is - I guess then yeah, now that you mention it, I’m really pissed off."
And working with Megan and Amanda?
Adam Brody: "It’s great. They’re both incredibly smart, charismatic, beautiful actors. It’s the best part of the job. Oh, two beautiful, talented actresses? Shoot."
Is Megan like her character?
Adam Brody: "No. She’s much more self-deprecating in person and much more of a tomboy."
