Hugh Jackman Joins Scarlett Johansson for Woody Allen's Latest Comedy

By Rebecca Murray, About.com

June 20, 2005 - "X-Men" star Hugh Jackman has signed on to Woody Allen's upcoming comedy movie, also starring Scarlett Johannson and Ian McShane ("Deadwood"). As with all of Allen's projects, the movie won't be named until filming is completed*.

Allen's returning to London to film the comedy which he wrote and will, of course, direct. Allen's films are normally set in and filmed on location around New York, however his most recently completed film, "Match Point," was also filmed in and around London.

Allen recently described his latest project to Variety. Allen told the paper, "The film is a comedy melodrama that is contemporary and takes place in London. Johansson plays a visiting American student who has a love affair with a British aristocrat. I play a low-grade American entertainer, which is perfect for me because that's what I am."

Jackman's expected to complete work on the Woody Allen film before reprising his role as Wolverine in "X-Men 3" for director Brett Ratner.

* - The film is officially named "Scoop"
