Jessica Alba on Playing a Shark Trainer: “I was terrified. I’m scared of sharks. I actually have a lot of bad dreams about sharks so it was a terrifying thing that I had to overcome.”
The Secret to Overcoming Her Fear of Sharks: “I told my grandmother to pray for me every day.” That must have worked as Alba is around to talk about the film. Laughing, Alba confirmed, “And all my limbs are here – thank God.”
Jessica Alba on Feeding Sharks: “I fed nurse sharks, which suck in the fish. They don’t have teeth and they’re not like regular sharks.”
Did She Know She’d Be Doing So Much Work Underwater?: “Yes, I did. I knew 60% of the movie was going to take place underwater. I just didn’t know how could it was going to be. It was freezing.”
Jessica Alba on the Scariest Shark Moment: “The scariest experience with the sharks was everyday. I mean, they’re wild sharks being feed all around us. They don’t know your limb from a fish tail. You always had to watch your back and make sure that a shark didn’t confuse you for a fish tail.”
Jessica Alba on the Difficulties of Acting Underwater: “It’s just a different beast altogether. I had big lips already so when I put that mask on, I looked really silly. I just tried to look as not silly as possible, which I didn’t achieve. I looked silly. I admit it. I don’t even care (laughing).”
