David Arquette on "The Darwin Awards" and Writer/Director Finn Taylor

Oct 20, 2005 - "The Darwin Awards" are a well-known Internet award given to anyone who dies or seriously injures themself while doing something incredibly dumb. DarwinAwards.com puts it this way: "The Darwin Awards salute the improvement of the human genome by honoring those who accidently kill themselves in really stupid ways."

Writer/director Finn Taylor has just wrapped production on a film based on the dubious awards. The movie features Joseph Fiennes as a forensic detective who works with an insurance investigator (Winona Ryder) to investigate possible Darwin Award winners.

The film includes scenes based on real-life award winners. David Arquette plays one such winner and talked to me briefly about his role while at the Hollywood Premiere of "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang:"

David Arquette on Working on "The Darwin Awards:" "I’m really excited about that. I love Finn Taylor and it was a great opportunity to work with him again. We had a great time."

David Arquette's Part in "The Darwin Awards:" "I’m one of the Darwin award [winners]. I get a good award, so yeah. It’s really fun to see. I’m the guy who…I don’t want to really ruin it...I’m one of the guys from in the book. I strap a rocket onto my car (laughing)."

David Arquette on Working with Writer/Director Finn Taylor: " 'Dream with the Fishes' is pretty much my favorite film that I’ve ever been a part of. I just love Finn, love his heart, love the films that he makes. He’s really like heart and soul the real deal. Just a great person and a great artist.

I don’t know. He’s just a special person. If I was a plumber and I met him, I’d love him. He's just a great person. Just to be able to work with really nice people you like and love and respect, that’s [important]. And he’s also got an incredible mind."
