You know, when you do these interviews, you kind of have to make yourself laugh. I think the last time I said that, I was kind of just joking, saying, “Oh, I only have to promote two more movies. Thank you, Jesus. I can’t wait to get out of this.” And no, I don't think I’m going to quit acting. I was just kind of having fun with myself and saying the stuff out loud. I don't know what else I would do really to express myself. I don’t really paint. I do play music. I was talking about quitting acting and playing music last time. But I’m going to do both. I’ll play some music, but I don't think I’ll quit.
Does that mean you’re just kidding about no kids, no marriage?
Well, no, I don't think so. I might get married, but I don't think I’ll have kids. All my buddies that I went to high school with who are my age, I’m 43 now, they’re all sending their kids to college. I just was in West Virginia a week ago and my buddy’s sending his kid to college, his little boy, and I said, “Would you want another one right now? Would you want another one? Little screaming meanie.” He said, “Are you out of your mind? It took us 19 years to get to this place.” Now he feels a little bit of freedom. For the last 19 years, really since basically since he got out of high school, he’s been a papa. And no, I don't think so. I don't think I have any energy to be a parent. It takes a lot of energy, man.
What’s next for you?
I think I’m going to go do a movie in Ireland. That’s why I’m growing this beard. In March. I play an Irish country music singer with an actor named Robert Carlyle. It’s called “In Like Flynn.” And it’s right up there with “Billy Elliott,” “Full Monty,” one of those kinds of movies.
Are you doing a project for ABC?
I did one last year. We did a pilot and it didn’t get picked up. It was great. Great. Why ABC didn’t pick this thing up, I will never figure it out. It was called “Naked Hotel.” It was written by Armyan Bernstein who’s written a bunch of movies, “The Hurricane” being one of them. And it was just great. Filmed in St. Thomas, it was a one hour. It was really reminiscent of “Northern Exposure,” that quirky, to the left thing. God, I can’t figure out why they didn’t pick this thing up. It was one of the best hours of TV I’ve ever seen.
