Funny and poignant, "Imaginary Heroes" peels back the layers of an ordinary American family to reveal that nothing is as it seems. When a shocking tragedy sets the Travis family on an ironic course of self-discovery, the secrets that threaten to divide them ultimately bring them closer together.
"Dan Harris, in his directorial debut, is a talent of great proportion," comments Sony Pictures Classics executives Michael Barker, Tom Bernard and Dylan Leiner. "We feel about Dan the way we felt about Richard Linklater, Neil LaBute, Sally Potter, Todd Solondz, and Don Roos when we presented their early work. 'Imaginary Heroes' is unexpected in its freshness and staggering in the performances of the actors. Sigourney Weaver and Jeff Daniels have never been better. We are thrilled to be in business with him, Art Linson and Illana and Moshe Diamant."
"I couldn't be happier that Sony Pictures Classics is releasing my first film," says Dan Harris. "They have shown the kind of care and taken the kinds of risks that consistently bring great, smaller films to larger audiences. The opportunity to introduce the film to audiences in Toronto is testament to the legacy of the festival."
"When I found out this script was written by a 22 year old, I was in awe," noted producer Illana Diamant. "Dan made me see the family through a teenager's eyes in such an honest way it made me laugh and cry at the same time."
Sony Pictures Classics will open "Imaginary Heroes" for one-week in December to qualify for year-end awards consideration and will release the film nationally in early 2005. Written and directed by Dan Harris and produced by Illana Diamant and Art Linson, the picture has been chosen for a gala screening at the 2004 Toronto International Film Festival.
"Imaginary Heroes" is a Sony Pictures Classics release, and a Signature Pictures, ApolloProMedia, and QI Quality International co-production.
