The Bottom Line
The idea that in the future mankind will be dumbed down and the smartest person in America will only have what's now considered an average IQ is an extremely funny idea for a movie. Mike Judge's Idiocracy never saw the light of day in theaters, which is a shame because compared to most of the other studio comedies put out, Idiocracy is a notch above the norm.

Guide Review - Idiocracy DVD Review
We all seem to assume that as years go by and technology progresses, mankind will continue on the same evolutionary path we've been on since the beginning of time. We will evolve and adapt to our surroundings. But writer/director Mike Judge's comedy film Idiocracy takes that idea and spins it on its head. What if in actuality all the intelligent people on the planet put off starting families? What if only those with below average IQs decided to keep on breeding? Idiocracy takes that latter proposition and deduces that the average IQ of adults in 500 would equal about the IQ of a toddler.
Luke Wilson (famous for playing the boyfriend in lots of romantic comedies) takes on the starring role of an average military guy named Joe Bowers who agrees to a short hibernation as part of an experiment. Unfortunately, the men in charge of watching over the experiment are jailed and Joe (along with Rita, a prostitute who also reluctantly agreed to the experiment) are forgotten about for 500 years.
Joe and Rita (Maya Rudolph) awaken to discover a world totally out of control. Fart jokes, crotch shots, and monster truck rallies rule the day, and no one can figure out how to grow crops or manage the economy. It's up to Joe to save society from itself - and he has only one week to do it.
