Guide Review - "House of Flying Daggers" DVD Review
Set in 859AD, "House of Flying Daggers" revolves around the battle between rebel armies and the corrupt Chinese government. One band of rebels, known as the House of Flying Daggers, seeks to assist the poor while destroying the men in power.Mei (Zhang Ziyi), a blind dancer at the Peony Pavilion, is suspected by the local police force of being the blind daughter of the deceased leader of the House of Daggers. Two local captains, Leo (Andy Lau) and Jin (Takeshi Kaneshiro), dream up a plan to use Mei to draw the House of Flying Daggers out of hiding. But nothing is as it seems. Hearts get broken and relationships are destroyed in this fast-paced, riveting love story.
"House of Flying Daggers" Bonus Features
In addition to the commentary track, "House of Flying Daggers" features two behind the scenes featurettes worth checking out. The 45 minute Making Of piece is not quite as revealing as most featurettes of the sort, however it does provide a good deal of info on the casting process and Zhang Yimou's thought process when it came to shooting selected scenes, particularly fight sequences. The visual effects featurette further breaks down scenes, showing them as they were shot and then adding in the effects.
