April 11, 2007 - Warner Bros Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures announced filming is now underway in Los Angeles on the big screen adaptation of the classic '60s TV series Get Smart. One of the most sought after actors in Hollywood, Steve Carell (The Office, The 40 Year Old Virgin), is taking on the role made famous by Don Adams on the long-running series which was created by comedy legends Mel Brooks and Buck Henry.
Get Smart will be directed by a filmmaker known for comedies, Peter Segal. Segal's recent films include the remake of The Longest Yard and the Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore romantic comedy 50 First Dates.
Joining Carell in Get Smart will be Anne Hathaway as Agent 99, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson as Agent 23, Terence Stamp as Siegried (a KAOS operative), and Alan Arkin as the Chief of CONTROL. Borat co-star Ken Davitian will play Shtarker. Heroes star Masi Oka is Bruce, Nate Torrence plays Lloyd, go-to funnyguy David Koechner is Agent Larabee, and Terry Crews portrays Agent 91.
The Failure to Launch screenwriting team of Tom J Astle and Matt Ember wrote the script. Andrew Lazar, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing. Executive producers are Michael Ewing, Dana Goldberg, Peter Segal, Jimmy Miller, Steve Carell, Brent OConnor and Bruce Berman.
