March 9, 2007 - Mrs Tom Cruise (aka Katie Holmes) is out and Maggie Gyllenhaal is in. Citing scheduling conflicts, Holmes won't be back in the role of Rachel Dawes in the second Batman movie from filmmaker Christopher Nolan. Instead, indie queen and talented actress Gyllenhaal will be stepping into the role of Batman's love interest in The Dark Knight.
Gyllenhaal joins Batman newcomers Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent/Two Face and Heath Ledger as The Joker. Returning cast members include Christian Bale, Michael Caine, and Gary Oldman.
Christopher Nolan will direct the film from a script his brother Jonathan wrote based on a story by Christopher Nolan and David Goyer. Filming is expected to begin in April 2007 with an anticipated release date of July 18, 2008.
