Tracy Morgan G-Force Interview
Did you say anything they later had to animate your character doing?Tracy Morgan: "Well, with the animation process, when you’re doing your voice, they have a film and they film you and your mannerisms because as you’re saying the stuff, you’re still going to act it out. They want to capture all of your mannerisms on film so they could add that to your animated character. I believe that’s how the process is done. I couldn’t tell you because I’ve never made an animated movie, but I believe that’s how it’s done."
You could create a lot of work if you do something they have to animate. They’re following your lead.
Tracy Morgan: "I think so too. They’re following a voice and checking out your mannerisms so they can match it to your character. So your character actually looks and moves like you in the movie."
Was “Maybe this would be a good time to take your medication” your own improv?
Tracy Morgan: "I don’t recollect, but I believe that might have been written."
What might you have added?
Tracy Morgan: "I said, when we get our badges I say, 'Oh, now we’re official tissue.' I said, 'That’s off the hoozook.' There’s a few things, my little nuances I put to it. For the most part it’s all scripted."
What did you think of the relationship subplot where the girl plays you and Darwin off each other?
Tracy Morgan: "I think that could be accurate."
That’ll teach kids about dating games pretty early.
Tracy Morgan: "Yeah, I mean, it’s fun. It’s innocent. It’s fun and innocent."
What’s your favorite thing about Blaster?
Tracy Morgan: "That he has all the weapons. He has all the weaponry. He knows it."
It is like a big Jerry Bruckheimer movie.
Tracy Morgan: "Yeah, man, it’s action. The action is real. It’s cool because it’s like four guinea pigs and everything, but it’s Jerry Bruckheimer written all over it. The action is real. The explosions and all that, and I think kids are going to have a lot of fun with it."
They were at the screening.
Tracy Morgan: "Yeah, yeah. I wasn’t exactly there, but I heard about it."
You also did Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs?
Tracy Morgan: "Yeah, but I don't know what’s happening with that one."
Was that a different process?
Tracy Morgan: "No, same exact process."
What do you like about animation voiceover?
Tracy Morgan: "It’s easy. I don’t have to get dressed up. I don’t have to put [any] makeup on. I just go to the studio and lay tracks."
Did you try any different voices other than your own?
Tracy Morgan: "No. Tracy Morgan is a household name in the household. People love the way my voice sounds. You don’t ask Chris Tucker to do a different voice."
And doing something for kids?
Tracy Morgan: "Doing something for kids, is it important to me? Sure, it’s fun. I still have the little kid inside of me alive. I have nieces and nephews. Sure. Why not?"
Have you seen it in 3-D?
Tracy Morgan: "I’ve seen it - yesterday. I went to the screening yesterday. I watched it and it was awesome and people were going crazy about it."
What has it meant to you to have a hit show and play the same character for four years?
Tracy Morgan: "It’s not a problem for me. It’s not a stretch. I’m just being myself. That’s on. I don’t have to do any crazy voices or anything. I’m just playing Tracy Jordan, just being myself."
And Blaster’s your own voice, too.
Tracy Morgan: "Just being myself. Nobody’s asked me to do anything different."
Is Nicolas Cage pissed that you’re in all the trailers?
Tracy Morgan: "That’s a question you would have to ask Nicolas Cage. That’s gonna get me... I know you’re a reporter and everything, but you’re not going to get me to step on that land mine, my friend."
