The Bottom Line

Steve Carell is one of the funniest men working in Hollywood today and he puts his talent to good use in Get Smart, a new take on the classic TV series. And Get Smart offers Carell the opportunity to show he can even handle a little action - although he'll never be confused with an action movie star.

  • You don't have to have watched the TV series to get the jokes
  • Great collection of bonus material

Cons

  • No commentary track

Description

  • Starring Steve Carell, Anne Hathaway, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, and Alan Arkin
  • Directed by Peter Segal
  • Rated PG-13 for some rude humor, action violence, and language
  • DVD Release Date: November 4, 2008

Guide Review - 'Get Smart' 2-Disc Special Edition DVD Review

The Story
Analyst Maxwell Smart (Carell) is ready and eager to step it up and handle the job of a secret agent. And when CONTROL gets attacked, Smart gets his chance to show he's capable of handling an important mission. Teamed up with the much more experienced Agent 99 (Anne Hathaway), Smart has to figure out how to stop CONTROL's worst enemy, KAOS, from their quest for world domination.

The Bonus Features
Rather than a commentary track, the Get Smart 2-Disc Special Edition DVD includes a 'Smart Takes' option. This allows viewers to watch the movie with alternates scenes included throughout. Definitely worth checking out after you've seen the film straight through once.

Additional bonus features include a featurette on casting the film, shooting in Russia, a funny stand-up bit called 'Language Lessons,' and the best of the batch - a 5+ minute gag reel that's really entertaining. The 2-Disc DVD also has a digital copy of the movie.
