May 1, 2007 - Universal Pictures has cast Australian actor Luke Ford in the role of Brendan Fraser's son Alex in The Mummy 3 set to begin filming this July. The 26-year-old actor will be in a position to take over the franchise when Fraser's ready to pass along the torch.
Ford joins Fraser, Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh for the action-filled adventure. The Mummy 3 will be directed by Rob Cohen from a screenplay by Miles Millar and Alfred Gough. Commenting to Variety on the casting of Ford, director Cohen revealed the Aussie won the part over established actors because of his chemistry with Fraser.
The third Mummy movie will be without the actress who played Alex's mummy (sorry!) in The Mummy Returns. Rachel Weisz has decided to pass on being involved in The Mummy 3 which means Cohen and company will be searching for someone to fill her shoes.
Filming will take place in Montreal and China as the story follows Rick O'Connell (Fraser) and Alex (Ford) as they journey to China's forbidden tombs and the Himalayas. Jet Li will play a cursed Chinese emperor while Yeoh is set to star as a wizard.
Universal Pictures is aiming for a July 11, 2008 release.
