Brendan Fraser Signs on to Star in Inkheart

Fraser will Star, Iain Softley will Direct

By Rebecca Murray, About.com

Aug 28, 2006 - New Line Cinema's big screen adaptation of Cornelia Funke's children's novel, Inkheart, is taking shape. Brendan Fraser has signed on to star and Iain Softley (The Skeleton Key) is committed to direct.

Funke's best-selling book follows the adventures of Meggie, a 12-year-old book enthusiast, and her father Mo, an expert at repairing books. Mo's not just an ordinary man who cares for books; he has a talent for being able to bring the characters from books to life when he reads the story out loud. Mo's strange power causes all sorts of trouble as characters appear in this world who prefer being part of their own fantasy universes. In addition, whenever someone appears in our world, something from here travels to the other world.

David Lindsay-Abaire adapted the screenplay. Filming is expected to begin on Inkheart later this year.

Brendan Fraser was last seen in the critically acclaimed drama, Crash. Fraser just wrapped work on The Air I Breathe with Kevin Bacon and The Last Time for writer/director Michael Caleo.
