Guide Review - "First Daughter" DVD Review
Katie Holmes ("Pieces of April") stars as Samantha Mackenzie, the daughter of the U.S. President (played by Michael Keaton). Samantha's grown up in the limelight and hasn't really ever had the opportunity to experience life as just a normal kid. She tries to change all that when she opts for college on the West Coast, as far as possible from the White House.Samantha's dad, the President, is overly protective but with just cause. He receives threats against his family on a daily basis, and everything the First Family does is closely examined by an entire nation. Agreeing to allow her to attend college in California, President Mackenzie places her in the protection of a couple of Secret Service agents, ensuring she'll never blend in and never be mistaken for just a 'normal' college student. Marc Blucas ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer") enters the scene as one of Samantha's fellow college students who catches her attention. But there's more to that picture than meets the eye...
DVD BONUS FEATURES:
"First Daughter" DVD features a couple of featurettes worth checking out. Get an inside look into the choreography of the ballroom dance scenes and Katie Holmes' sexy dance in the bar with the "Fox Trot" featurette. There's also a touching tribute to composer Michael Kamen who passed away during the filming of "First Daughter." But you can skip the commentary track and not have to worry about missing a thing. It's pure fluff and doesn't really offer any insights into making the movie.
