"Miami Vice" Movie is Coming Together

Universal Looks to Bring "Miami Vice" to the Big Screen

By , About.com Guide

(Oct. 14, 2004) Universal Pictures appears to be zeroing in on the "Miami Vice" movie cast. According to Variety, Jamie Foxx is in discussions to play Det. Ricardo Tubbs and Irish hottie Colin Farrell is being targeted to play James 'Sonny' Crockett.

The original "Miami Vice" television series starred a scruffy-faced Don Johnson ('Crockett') and Philip Michael Thomas ('Tubbs'). The series was known for making a statement on men's fashion and it seemed every young adult male in the mid-1980s copied Johnson's look.

"Miami Vice" TV series executive producer Michael Mann is in negotiations with Universal to write, direct, and produce the movie.

Jamie Foxx recently co-starred with Tom Cruise in "Collateral" and will next be seen in "Ray," the Ray Charles biopic that's creating a lot of Oscar buzz. Colin Farrell recently worked with Oliver Stone on "Alexander," which will be released in November 2004.
