The Bottom Line

Fans of the HBO series The Flight of the Conchords are going to want to check out Eagle vs Shark, a weird comedy starring Conchords' Jemaine Clement. Eagle vs Shark is a strange, twisted love story and best of all, it's not the usual boy meets girl relationship tale.

Guide Review - Eagle vs Shark DVD Review

The Story

Introverted Lily (Loren Horsley) falls for a customer of the fast food restaurant where she worked up until being unceremoniously let go. Although she's incredible shy, Lily takes the huge step of attending a 'Dress as Your Favorite Animal' party that the secret objection of her affection, Jarrod (Jemaine Clement), is hosting.

Jarrod and Lily make an odd love connection while competing in a video game tournament at the party. But while Lily's ready for a relationship, Jarrod's obsessed with revenge. A high school bully left an indelible impression on Jarrod and now after 10 years of waiting, Jarrod's ready to call out the bully and make him pay.

The Bonus Features

There's a much better collection of extras on Eagle vs Shark than you'd expect from a film of this size and budget. In addition to 13 deleted scenes with commentary by writer/director Taika Waititi and Craig Hall, the Eagle vs Shark DVD also includes outtakes and a music video, as well as a feature-length commentary track by Waititi (who's occasionally joined by Horsley on the phone and other actors from the film who drop in and out). Extend the fun of Eagle vs Shark by listening to the commentaries. Both the commentary track and the deleted scene commentaries are way above the standard fare.
