"Planet of the Apes" The Legacy Collection

The Bottom Line

This new collection probably won't win over anyone who didn't like the "Planet of the Apes" franchise in the first place, but it should please casual fans of the movie series who haven't revisited the classic ape films in years - if not decades.

Guide Review - "Planet of the Apes" The Legacy Collection DVD Review

The Legacy Collection contains "Planet of the Apes," "Beneath the Planet of the Apes," "Escape from the Planet of the Apes," "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes," and an extended cut of "Battle for the Planet of the Apes" (personally, this is my least favorite of the series).

Along with the classic films, The Legacy Collection also includes the "Behind the Planet of the Apes" documentary disc. All of the "Apes" movies are presented with THX Certified 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround which greatly enhances the viewing experience.

"The Planet of the Apes" series starts with Astronaut Taylor (Charlton Heston) crashing on a planet ruled by apes and where humans are the primitive species. Taylor soon finds himself having to fight for his life along with the native human population. Roddy McDowell co-stars as an ape scientist sympathetic to the plight of humans.

The franchise takes off from there with each subsequent film tackling difficult social issues in the guise of campy entertainment.
