"Doubt" (2008)
It’s 1964, St. Nicholas in the Bronx. A vibrant, charismatic priest, Father Flynn, is trying to upend the schools’ strict customs, which have long been fiercely guarded by Sister Aloysius Beauvier, the iron-gloved Principal who believes in the power of fear and discipline. The winds of political change are sweeping through the community, and indeed, the school has just accepted its first black student, Donald Miller. But when Sister James, a hopeful innocent, shares with Sister Aloysius her guilt-inducing suspicion that Father Flynn is paying too much personal attention to Donald, Sister Aloysius sets off on a personal crusade to unearth the truth and to expunge Flynn from the school. Now, without a shard of proof besides her moral certainty, Sister Aloysius locks into a battle of wills with Father Flynn which threatens to tear apart the community with irrevocable consequence.
Movie Review: "Doubt"
John Patrick Shanley brings his award winning play "Doubt" to the screen with Meryl Streep in place of Tony winner Cherry Jones and Philip Seymour Hoffman in Brian F. O'Byrne's shoes. And if you're going to replace the actors who made the story come to life on stage, then filling their roles with Oscar winners is probably the way to go.

Meryl Streep stars as Sister Aloysius, a strict disciplinarian who leaves children quaking in her wake, in the big screen version John Patrick Shanley's play, "Doubt." Sister Aloysius runs the church's private school with a firm hand and doesn't tolerate even the slightest misbehavior.
Philip Seymour Hoffman Plays Priest in "Doubt"
Philip Seymour Hoffman had seen John Patrick Shanley's play prior to taking on the role of Father Brendan Flynn in the big screen adaptation of "Doubt." He'd also known Shanley for 10 years and Meryl Streep, who plays his onscreen adversary Sister Aloysius, for eight years.
Amy Adams Talks About "Doubt"
Academy Award nominee Amy Adams shares the screen with 2-time Oscar winner Meryl Streep and Academy Award winner Philip Seymour Hoffman in the dramatic movie "Doubt," based on the play by John Patrick Shanley. Adams has been on a roll lately and is definitely in demand, but she wasn't the first actress offered the part of Sister James in the movie version of Shanley's "Doubt."
