Doomsday DVD

Doomsday - The Unrated and Rated Versions on DVD

The Bottom Line

Rhona Mitra shows off her action skills in the above average thriller Doomsday. I'm actually not sure why this film didn't do better at the box office - it has just about everything action movie fanatics could ask for, plus the acting's terrific.

Guide Review - 'Doomsday' DVD Review

The Story

The British government shuts off Scotland from the world after an outbreak of the Reaper virus begins spreading, killing off thousands. Quarantining an entire country has turned the rest of the world against the Brits, so when the Reaper virus emerges in England, calling on outside help isn't an option. Instead, they must send an elite team into the walled off country to try and retrieve the antidote. The catch: those who survived the initial spread of the disease have turned into cannibals...

The Bonus Features

Director Neil Marshall (The Descent) joins cast members Sean Pertwee, Darren Morfitt, Rick Warden, and Les Simpson to discuss the film on an unusually subdued commentary track. The group often gets distracted watching the movie and so there are long pauses between any actual commentary.

Also included on the DVD are behind the scenes looks at the style of the film, the subject matter, how the cast was put together, the weapons and vehicles designed specifically for the movie, and the special effects. The featurettes are both entertaining and enlightening so check them out, even if you decide to skip the commentary track.
