Fresh off his Oscar win for adapting The Departed screenplay, William Monahan has signed on to tackle yet another remake of a Hong Kong film. Monahan will adapt Confessions of Pain with The Departed star Leonardo DiCaprio interested in starring in the film.
The Departed was based on the story in Infernal Affairs, which was written by Alan Mak and Felix Chong, and directed by Mak and Andrew Lau. Lau, Mak and Chong are also responsible for the original Confessions of Pain released in 2006. The Hong Kong film follows a couple of detective friends investigating the murder of one of their family members.
