Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg Take on "War of the Worlds"

Tom Cruise (hot off his "Collateral" success) and Steven Spielberg (Cruise's "Minority Report" director) are reuniting for another huge project - a contemporized version of the H.G. Wells story, "War of the Worlds."

According to Variety, Cruise has put off "Mission Impossible 3" and Spielberg has postponed his 1972 Olympics project in order to get "War of the Worlds" finished in time for a 2005 release.

This new "War of the Worlds" adaptation was scripted by David Koepp and will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Paula Wagner. DreamWorks and Paramount have teamed up to finance that project, which could run upwards of $150 million.
