Cruise is well-known for walking the entire red carpet and granting every member of the media a little face time while promoting his films. He's gracious and accomodating when it comes to movie premieres, which is a lot more than can be said for some stars (and I use that term very loosely) who don't come close to being as well-known as Cruise.
Having covered the red carpet at more movie premieres than I care to count up, I know first-hand who does actually work the carpet and who simply shows up and waves. Cruise is definitely one of the handful of stars who can always be counted on for a brief interview. At least he was until some 'jerks' from Channel 4 decided to pull a prank for their new TV series while supposedly doing real interviews at the London Premiere of "War of the Worlds."
Cruise thought he was just doing another routine interview when the interviewer squirted him in the face with water from his fake microphone. Holding it together better than most people would have done under those circumstances, Cruise called the guy out, labeling him a jerk and asking why he'd do such a thing when Cruise was willing to give him an interview. As the culprit turned away, Cruise said, "Don't run away. That's incredibly rude. I'm here giving you an interview and answering your questions and you do something really nasty," before adding, "You're a jerk."
The so-called reporter and three other men were arrested for assault and have now been released on bail.
Even if you've had it up to here with coverage of the Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes romance, that's no excuse to go and douse the Hollywood A-lister with water. And talk about killing your program before it even gets off the ground... Just how many celebrity events will that 'film crew' ever be invited to again? I'm thinking the answer's a huge goose egg.
