2004 Hollywood Film Festival Award Nominees

HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Oct. 6, 2004 - The Hollywood Film Festival's Board of Advisors has announced the nominees for the 2004 "Hollywood Film Awards(R)" competition. The announcement was made in Hollywood by Carlos de Abreu, Founder and Executive Director of the Hollywood Film Festival.

"This year's Hollywood Film Festival continues its tradition of honoring the very best talent within our community. It is a celebration of all aspects of Hollywood filmmaking and the artists who help to create its lasting legacy on our culture," festival co-chair Paula Wagner said.

The competition is comprised of three categories: The Hollywood MOVIE OF THE YEAR Awards(R), the Hollywood WORLD Awards(TM), and the Hollywood EUROPEAN Awards(TM).

The "Hollywood MOVIE OF THE YEAR Awards(R)" presented by ETOnline.com and Yahoo Movies cover the public's favorites for the year. The 10 nominees are "Collateral" by Michael Mann, "Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind" by Michel Gondry, "Fahrenheit 9/11" by Michael Moore, "Hero" by Zhang Yimou, "Napoleon Dynamite" by Jared Hess, "SHREK 2" by Andrew Adamson, Kelly Asbury and Conrad Vernon, "Spider-Man 2" by Sam Raimi, "The Bourne Supremacy" by Paul Greengrass, "The Motorcycle Diaries" by Walter Salles and "The Passion Of The Christ" by Mel Gibson.

The "Hollywood WORLD Awards(TM)" presented by "Screen International" cover films from Asia, Africa and Latin America. The 10 nominees in alphabetical order are "2046" (Hong Kong/China) directed by Wong Kar-wai, "3-Iron" (South Korea) directed by Kim Ki-duk, "House Of Flying Daggers" (China) directed by Zhang Yimou, "The Motorcycle Diaries" (Argentina/Chile/Peru/US) directed by Walter Salles, "Maria Full Of Grace" (Colombia/US) directed by Joshua Marston, "Memories Of Murder" (South Korea) directed by Bong Joon-ho, "Nobody Knows" (Japan) directed Koreeda Hirokazu, "Old Boy" (South Korea) directed Park Chan-wook, "The World" (China) directed by Jia Zhang-ke and Zatoichi (Japan) directed by Takeshi Kitano.

The Hollywood EUROPEAN Awards(TM) presented by Screen International and Filmfestivals.com cover films from Europe. The 10 nominees in alphabetical order are "5x2" (France) directed by Francois Ozon, "Bad Education" (Spain) by Pedro Almodovar, "The Consequences Of Love" (Italy) directed by Paolo Sorrentino, "Head-On" (Germany/Turkey) directed by Faith Akin, "A Hole In My Heart" (Sweden) directed by Lukas Moodysson, "Look At Me" (France) directed by Agnes Jaoui, "My Summer Of Love" (UK) directed by Pawel Pawlikowski, "The Return" (Russia) directed by Andrei Zvyagintsev, "The Sea Inside" (Spain) directed by Alejandro Amenabar and "Vera Drake" (UK) directed by Mike Leigh.

The festival will also present honors at this year's Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony to Dean Robert Rosen of the UCLA's School of Theatre, Film and Television, Newmarket film founder Bob Berney, producer Mel Gibson, director Michael Mann, actor John Travolta, actor Leonardo DiCaprio, actress Annette Bening, actor Jamie Foxx, actress Keira Knightley, director Zach Braff, screenwriter John Logan, cinematographer Caleb Deschanel, editor Sally Menke, composer Thomas Newman, visual effects artist John Dykstra, costume designer Albert Wolsky, production designer Stuart Craig, make-up artist Ve Neill and casting director Debra Zane.

The festival film program includes Miramax's "FINDING NEVERLAND," by Marc Forster starring Johnny Depp and Kate Winslet on October 13, Lions Gate Films' "EULOGY," by Michael Clancy starring Hank Azaria, Jesse Bradford, Zooey Deschanel, Kelly Preston, Ray Romano and Debra Winger on October 14, United Artists' "UNDERTOW," by David Gordon Green starring Jamie Bell, Josh Lucas, Devon Alan, Shiri Appleby and Dermot Mulroney on October 14, Newmarket Films' "P.S.," by Dylan Kidd starring Laura Linney, Topher Grace, Paul Rudd, Lois Smith, Gabriel Byrne, and Marcia Gay Harden on October 15, Paramount Classics "THE MACHINIST," by Brad Anderson starring Christian Bale and Jennifer Jason Leigh on October 15, "ENDURING LOVE," by Roger Michell starring Samantha Morton and Daniel Craig on October 16, and Lions Gate's "A LOVE SONG FOR BOBBY LONG," by Shainee Gabel starring John Travolta and Scarlett Johansson on October 17.
