May 19, 2008 - Busy actor/producer/director and all-around Hollywood good guy George Clooney is set to star in Men Who Stare at Goats based on the book by Jon Ronson. Ronson's (Them: Adventures With Extremists) book involves a secret US military unit, the U.S. Army First Earth Battalion, that engages in paranormal activities and believes it's possible to kill just by staring at things (hence the book's title).

Clooney's Smoke House producing partner Grant Heslov will direct the film. Peter Straughan adapted the screenplay. There's no word yet on when production is likely to begin on Men Who Stare at Goats.

Clooney recently starred in and directed Leatherheads, a romantic comedy with Renee Zellweger that proved to be a box office flop. Clooney followed that up with another starring turn in a Coen Bros movie. He reunited with his Ocean's buddy Brad Pitt for the Coens' Burn After Reading which is set to hit theaters in September.
