Clooney and Blanchett Consider Starring in "The Good German" for Soderbergh

By Rebecca Murray, About.com

April 8, 2005 - According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cate Blanchett is in negotiations and George Clooney is in talks to join the romantic thriller, "The Good German," to be directed by Steven Soderbergh.

Based on the Joseph Kanon book, "The Good German" follows an American correspondent who returns to Berlin soon after Hitler's defeat. There to write about the Allied triumph and search for his lost love, he stumbles upon a murder mystery involving an American soldier.

If Clooney signs on to star in "The Good German," it would be the fifth time he and his producing partner, Steven Soderbergh, have teamed up as actor and director.

Paul Attanasio adapted the screenplay and Soderbergh and Clooney will produce "The Good German." Filming is expected to start in September 2005.

George Clooney will next be seen in "Syriana" with Matt Damon. He's currently directing/starring in "Goodnight, and Good Luck," the Edward R. Murrow biopic.

Cate Blanchett recently wrapped filming on "Little Fish" for director Rowan Woods ("The Boys").
