ALEXA DAVALOS ('Kyra'):
It looks like they threw you into some pretty tough action scenes. What was the training like?
The training was a life-changing experience. Before that, the gym was a foreign planet to me, so I didn’t understand it. But I fell in love with the fight choreography and the weapon training and the wire work. The wire work was my favorite. I would do that any day of the week.
Really? So take us through a typical wire work training session.
They hook you in, they strap you in, and basically you learn your choreography in this harness, with the help of two people who you hope are paying attention. It is really hard and it’s painful, but then it was all I wanted to do (laughing).
What was the most exciting stunt sequence you had to do with Vin Diesel?
We fight very well together – our characters. There’s a part where he grabs Kyra’s hand and swings her around, and uses her as a weapon. That was the biggest and most terrifying stunt.
How much did you do and how much was done by stunt people?
I did as much as I could, as much as there was time to do. It was a massive production and we had two units. If I could be on both units in the same day, I would go back and forth. I did as much as possible, but my stunt double is wonderful.
Your character was in the first movie. Did you study “Pitch Black” before shooting?
I did, I did. And I picked Vin’s brain and David Twohy’s brain and got as much information as I could.
What was the one thing they told you about this character that really helped you play the role?
There’s a tremendous resentment thing that she has for Riddick, and figuring out the fine line between that and her absolute admiration for him was fun and hard.
Do you think they’ll be a second installment of “The Chronicles of Riddick?”
I hope so - and I know so.
Would you return to do a second “Riddick?”
Absolutely.
