The Bottom Line

No matter what the project is, the always reliable Tommy Lee Jones turns in an entertaining performance - and "Man of the House" is no exception. Jones has done comedy before ("Men in Black") but this time around it's a bunch of beautiful young woman who serve up the humor while Jones, doing what he does best in this genre, plays the straight man.
Pros
  • You can always count on Tommy Lee Jones to deliver a good performance
  • Fluffy entertainment - good for when you don't want to think your way through a movie
Cons
  • Not much in the way of bonus features

Guide Review - "Man of the House" DVD Review

No, this isn't the "Man of the House" with Chevy Chase and Jonathan Taylor Thomas (remember him from "Home Improvement"?). That 1995 comedy has nothing in common with this 2005 film, which stars Tommy Lee Jones as a Texas Ranger assigned the arduous duty of protecting five lovely cheerleaders played by Monica Keena, Paula Garces, Vanessa Ferlito, Kelli Garner, and Christina Milian.

Jones plays Lt Roland Sharp, a hardcore Texas Ranger who is given the assignment to keep an eye on a group of cheerleaders who witnessed a murder. In order to keep the girls safe, Sharp goes undercover as their assistant cheerleading coach. What sounds like a relatively easy assignment turns out to be anything but as Sharp soon discovers watching a bevy of beauties is a heck of a lot tougher than it seems.

DVD BONUS FEATURES:
The 'Cheer Camp' featurette follows the actresses as they learn how to do everything necessary to pull off playing cheerleaders on screen. It's a pretty amusing behind the scenes piece, and males in particular should get a kick out of watching the girls go through their paces.

The Making-Of featurette is pretty much the standard fare we've come to expect on DVDs. Nothing extraordinary or revealing, this bonus feature is only worth checking out if you happen to be a huge fan of behind-the-scenes stuff.
