Andrew Douglas (The Amityville Horror remake) has already committed to directing Priest from a script by Cory Goodman. Goodman adapted the screenplay from the comic book by Min-Woo Hyung. Hyung's story involves a former priest named Ivan Isaacs who has been to hell and back - and wants revenge. Goodman's adaptation has the warrior priest (Butler) uniting with a sheriff (Strait) to stop a group of ruthless vampires.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Michael De Luca, Josh Donen, Sam Raimi and Mitchell Peck are producing Priest. Filming is expected to begin in October 2006 in Mexico.
Butler (Dracula 2000, Phantom of the Opera, Dear Frankie) recently completed work on 300, based on Frank Miller's graphic novel, and Butterfly on a Wheel with Pierce Brosnan (talk about a movie overloaded with eye candy).
Steven Strait is currently at work on 10,000 B.C. for writer/director Roland Emmerich and just wrapped filming on The Covenant for director Renny Harlin.
