Aishwarya Rai Biography (Courtesy of Miramax and "Bride and Prejudice"):

Feb. 2005 - One of Bollywood’s most popular and beloved actresses, Aishwarya Rai makes her English-speaking debut in "BRIDE & PREJUDICE." She will next be seen in “Chaos” opposite Meryl Streep, Roland Joffe’s “Singularity” with Brendan Fraser, and in the lead role of “Mistress of Spices” which Gurinder Chadha is producing for Paul Mayeda Berges to direct.

While still a science and architecture student, Rai began modeling on the side, which culminated in her winning Miss World for India in 1994. With her stunning looks—Julia Roberts has called her "the world's most beautiful woman"— Rai fast became one of India's most famous models, landing a prestigious Pepsi campaign and several Vogue spreads. Bollywood soon called and she debuted in Mani Rathnam's “Iruvar,” followed by “Aur Paar Ho Gaya’,” “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam,” “Mohabbatein,” “Hamara Dil Aapke Paas Hai” and the highly acclaimed “Devdas.” In 2003, she became the first Indian actor invited to serve on the Cannes jury.

Recently, Rai has joined Catherine Deneuve and Andie MacDowell as a member of the elite L'Oreal Dream Team. She has graced the covers of India Today, TIME Magazine and was listed on Rolling Stone Magazine's annual "Hot List.”
