The Bottom Line

If you can make it through the first half hour, then "Boogeyman's" a pretty decent thriller. The effects don't overwhelm the actors and there are more than a couple of geniunely scary moments.
Pros
  • Better than your average teen scarefest
  • Barry Watson's not half bad in the leading role
  • Effects are suitably scary
Cons
  • Starts off so slow you might consider tuning out

Guide Review - "Boogeyman" DVD Review

Barry Watson (TV's "7th Heaven") stars as Tim Jensen, a man who's still scared of things that go bump in the night. As a kid, Tim thought he witnessed a 'boogeyman' grab his dad and pull him into the closet never to be seen again. As an adult, he stills thinks there might be something to his childhood fears and he continues to be leery of closets.

After a family tragedy, Tim returns to his childhood home to confront the closet demons. Meeting up with a young girl who needs his help, Tim starts to believe that maybe, just maybe, it's not all in his imagination. Then the girl he had a crush on as a child shows up and things really start to spin out of control.

DVD Bonus Features

The two-part 'Making Of' featurette goes into pretty good detail on what went into making the film. Interviews with the filmmakers and cast help you get a behind-the-scenes look at the thought process that went into "Boogeyman."

You can skip the 'Animatics' feature unless you're really into storyboards however the four 'Visual Effects Progressions' material provides a step-by-step look at the filming of specific scenes and is definitely worth checking out.
