On the set of the movie The Brothers Solomon, Will Forte - a former member of The Groundlings comedy troupe - talked about joining another group of funny guys for Beerfest.
The Broken Lizard guys said you were the world champion drinker. Do you really have serious beer-drinking skills?
"Its crazy because we had to do a lot of drinking fake beer mixed with diet coke. I happened to be the first one, on this particular day, I was the first one in the line and there was a little suction tube that sucked out the beer as you drink it. The suction tube wasnt working so all these people are waiting, but me and the guy across from me - who was the first person on the other team - were starting and the suction wouldnt start so wed have to drink a lot of beer, or near beer, and then wed have to stop.
By the time we actually got the thing working, we were filled with this disgusting brew of nothing that was really beer. It just tasted kind of like beer...it was disgusting. I went out a couple times and made some way for [more]. I made myself throw up. Then I heard, for some reason, its turned into people saying like I wasnt man enough to hold it in or something like that. I was the only person who was actually drinking the stuff at that time."
How much weight did you gain?
"Probably five pounds. We didnt drink that much when it came down to it. There were all these tubes sucking it out, so by the time they got the tubes going, it wasnt the beer. It was the craft services. I gained more weight on The Brothers Solomon than I did on Beerfest."
How does working with the Broken Lizard crew compare to working on Saturday Night Live?
"Its just a totally different situation. These are five guys who have been together forever and theyre out on this location in Albuquerque. Theres nothing to do except for go out after [shooting]. You could go home and sleep. Those guys are world class partiers. They have a very full night of drinking, still get up and be pros on the set. They taught me a lot about mixing working and drinking. The SNL crew is very fun also but we all... Youre in your home, so you all have apartments to go back to, and youre spread out. In Albuquerque, we were all staying at the same hotel. Its like youre away for summer camp. You just have to work during the days."
