Charles Roven on Bringing the “Batman” Franchise Back to Life: Both Goyer and Roven are adamant that “Batman Begins” is true to the vision director Christopher Nolan had for the film from the get-go. Nolan’s vision was, fortunately, the same as the studio’s. “Actually, what happened was that Warner Brothers had been trying really since ‘Batman and Robin’ to figure out a way to bring the project back. They’d worked with other different filmmakers in various incarnations. They actually had one great script called ‘Batman vs. Superman,’ but that was a way to possibly revitalize both franchises. And then when they got what they thought at that time was a great script from J.J. Abrams on ‘Superman,’ they decided they were gonna make that. They went and they said, ‘Well, gee, maybe we can revitalize Batman on his own.’ And Chris said, ‘Hey, I’m interested in meeting on that.’”

”Batman Begins” Stats: Neither Goyer or Roven would disclose the exact budget for “Batman Begins.” Roven responded to the question with, “A lot.” But both knew the exact number of days it took to film “Batman Begins.” “There was only principal photography…so we ended up shooting 123 days,” said Roven.

Will David Goyer Be Involved in the Next “Batman” Movie? “We don’t know. Until Chris [Nolan] commits or not…Everyone’s sort of waiting on Chris.”

Signing on the Cast of the Next “Batman” Movie: During the “Batman Begins” press junket, some actors said they were signed on for future films, others had no idea what’s in store for them in further editions of the franchise. Roven said, “I think that Michael Caine is committed to doing another one. Michael Caine is [signed on for] three,” adding, “I think, I’m not sure if Katie is committed. I think Michael Caine is committed.” Pausing to think about it a little more, Roven disclosed, “Christian [Bale], Gary Oldman. I actually think that Katie Holmes is committed, too.”

The One Comic Book Character That Cries Out for a Movie: David Goyer barely let the question get out before he responded, “Silver Surfer.” While he really wants to bring that to the big screen, he’s currently at work on another comic book adaptation, “The Flash.” “I’m writing it right now and Chuck is producing it,” confirmed Goyer.
