Based on the novel by Philippa Gregory, the plot centers on the rivalry between Mary and Anne Boleyn. The sisters fought over King Henry VIII, with both women seeking to be queen. At age 14, Mary becomes the King's lover and the couple have two children. However sister Anne comes between the lovers and inserts herself into the power position. The Other Boleyn Girl follows their tale as the women fall in and out of favor with the King and his court.
If the deals go through, Portman would play Anne and Bana will star as King Henry VIII.
Peter Morgan adapted the screenplay from Gregory's novel. Filming is expected to start in September, 2006.
Eric Bana will next be seen in the Curtis Hanson film, Lucky You. He's currently filming Romulus, My Father with Franka Potente. Natalie Portman recently completed work on Goya's Ghosts and is in production on Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium.
